Colores

On January 9, StudioRGF Arriaza11 inaugurates a month full of color dedicated to reflecting on the RAINBOW. We present for four weeks, an unusual rainbow composed of the works of Alvaro Haro Jesús Ibañez, Daniel Garbade, Jose Maria Cuasante Vicente Gomez Concha Romeu and Roberto Gonzalez Fernandez and on the other, a first batch of popups lasting three days, with a marked emphasis on color

The Two in the Pair: An Exploration of Gender Fluidity and Identity

The monochromatic palette of “The Two in the Pair” highlights the symbolism of the color white in the LGBTQIA+ flag, associated with intersex people and representing unity and inclusion for all identities.

In the main canvas, one character wears a flowered hat, traditionally linked to femininity, while the other holds a cigar, historically considered a symbol of masculinity. The scene balances these opposing energies, challenging conventional gender roles.

On one of the side canvases, the character who initially held the cigar now appears wearing the flowered hat, adopting a more feminine expression. This shift suggests how identities can be fluid and transform depending on the context.

Conversely, on the opposite canvas, the man who originally wore the flowered hat now holds the cigar. This symbolic exchange emphasizes how the same elements can cross the boundaries of what society labels as masculine or feminine.

The composition of the three canvases invites the viewer to reflect on the fluidity of identities and gender roles: What does it mean to feel more masculine, more feminine, or perhaps neither? Who are we, truly?

The variations in the characters across the side canvases explore the performative nature of gender and reveal the diversity of ways it can manifest. This play of contrasts and transformations allows the work to engage in dialogue with the viewer about the complexities of identity and personal expression.
